Our Story - Ko wai matou?

In the Ngahere is a unique creative store offering a beautiful range of greeting cards that celebrate Māori and Pasifika design, alongside finely crafted contemporary wooden products. It reflects the founders’ shared passion for art and design, cultural storytelling and te reo Māori.

Founded in 2021 by Charlie (Niuean and English) and Catherine (Ngātiwai, Ngā Puhi, Ngāti Hine, Ngāti Pākehā), In the Ngahere was born after three years of thought, lockdowns, developing ideas, research, and learning.

The name In the Ngahere embodies their responsibility to kaitiakitanga—guardianship of the environment. Whenever possible, they use salvaged wood from construction sites, giving new life to discarded materials and reducing waste.

Charlie and Catherine have combined their complimentary skills to create a business they love. As a family business, they aim to create pieces that are memorable, meaningful, and sustainable, celebrating the beauty and richness of Māori and Pasifika culture.
